TANC's Wiki is for reference. Below are procedures that are easy to forget (like reimbursements) and there is some information on TANC's organizational structure.

Getting Involved in TANC

Anyone who is a tenant—a person who is not in control of their own housing situation—can participate in TANC and help build the organization. However, getting more deeply involved and becoming a TANC organizer requires a few steps. This process is a new one, developed by the Onboarding Working Group. The purpose of doing this is to provide a more easy integration into TANC, and to communicate an understanding of TANC's short, medium and long term strategy.

Getting involved (or reinvolved) in TANC is easy. We suggest following these steps:

Keep Track of TANC events

  • Follow our Google Calendar: baytanc.com/calendar TANC events are posted here regularly. Feel free to drop into any listed!
  • Like and Follow TANC's Facebook: facebook.com/baytanc Not all events are posted on Facebook, but many are.
  • Follow TANC's Twitter: Twitter.com/TANCBay We sometimes post event reminders on twitter, and always have a hot take to share.

Attend!

Being a part of TANC usually begins with attending a meeting or event. Using the links above (especially the Calendar) you can decide what seems interesting enough to attend.

To sign up for the TANC email, simply fill out the join form at join.baytanc.com. All information collected is confidential and won't be given out to anyone.

Schedule a 1:1 Meeting with a TANC Organizer

TANC has a new onboarding process to help integrate new members into our organizing. Here's how it works:

  • Step 1: Fill out the join form at join.baytanc.com.
  • Step 2: An onboarding person will reach out to you to schedule a short meeting where you will get acquainted with TANC and how we organize.
  • Step 3: You'll be sent a powerpoint presentation to review before the meeting.
  • Step 4: The TANC onboarding person will help you choose a committee, working group, or neighborhood chapter to join. Or, they might help you start that new project you're eager to begin!

Procedures

Procedures are being made on an as-needed basis.

Paying Optional Dues

As of 2019 TANC dues are totally optional, but recommended. Dues are used for the following: monthly rent for our meeting space and print shop; meeting supplies including food; educational materials; community events; and, mobilizations. To pay monthly dues or to make a one-time donation, go to baytanc.com/dues

Reimbursements

Reimbursements are paid after the fact. They are limited to the following items: Meeting supplies (including food); meeting rent or subscriptions; printing or propaganda materials. For other reimbursements

  • Step 1: Purchase Items and save the receipt if possible
  • Step 2: Fill out the reimbursement form to request reimbursement. Be sure to upload a photo of receipt if possible.
  • Step 3: Wait 5 days for reimbursement. If you do not hear back within that time, email finance@baytanc.com.

Forming a Local Chapter

  • Process for forming a local chapter has not been formalized.
  • Current working rule: Three or more TANC organizers can start a chapter. At the early stages, a chapter should work on building some capacity by doing outreach. A good way to do this is to offer know your rights trainings, TANC organizers from other locals can help you with this. Just ask!
